Two blog posts in a row! Perhaps things are looking up for me. This one is just in regards to "comment" management, however. Someone has been posting random, spam comments. Nonsenisical blabbering. It's gone on for months but was usually only 2-3 per day. But in the last two days it's been hundreds and takes a fair amount of time to "moderate" to the trash. I don't know why someone would do this as it seems like such a waste of my and their time. Nevertheless, I've had to require a verification code in order to add a comment. I apologize for this inconvenience but see no other option. If some how he/she/it continues and gets past the verification code I'll have to turn off all comments. Fingers crossed...

Joel,
Here's the deal with comment spam. http://www.webspam.org/what-is-blog-or-comment-spam-and-how-can-i-fight-it/
It's usually generated by bots, and not a real person. The gibberish words are randomly generated to get past spam filters. Not much you can do except put in CAPTCH or some other method to ensure there is a real person behind the comments.

Try Akismet. It's an easy to use filtering programme. That'll sort it.

Congrats on the 2 post streak! Lol. Seriously though. No need to apologize for moderating comments. Spammers are such a buzzkill. At least it hasn't deterred you from posting. I used to have the same problem until I bought a smartphone. Now I just delete spammer junk with one touch wherever, whenever. Happy posting!

Hi Joe, spam happens I'm afraid. I'm using Wordpress for my blog and it has a plug in that filters spam comments for me - dozens per day - all without me having to moderate. Askimet is the plugin, I'm not sure if it's available on your platform, but I love it. Keep up the great writing.
